Hi Roger, hi all,
What are your experiences with very wide-field capture of background plates for studio/VFX work? How important is parallax in practice?
For drone work, are there shots where current wide-angle or fisheye solutions become limiting? If so, what is usually the real problem: distortion, edge quality, gimbal size, payload, dynamic range, rolling shutter, reframing, stitching, or something else?
For VFX/background plates, how often is a conventional wide or 360º plate sufficient? At what point does the lack of parallax become a real limitation and make you move to depth capture, photogrammetry, 3DGS or another spatial workflow?
I’d be especially interested in hearing what people currently use, where existing solutions still feel like a compromise, and which cameras or camera systems you would recommend today for these kinds of applications.
