      Hello there!

I’m doing some research for an article and was wondering if anyone knows what method the Hazeltine actually used to determine “correct” exposure/target density when timing your negative and reading out printer lights.

it must have had, like any camera, some form of light meter inside it, and a “brain” with some sort of method/rules for determining correct exposure. Was it average, centre weighted average..? could this be adjusted or any form of “compensation” applied?

would love any info on this.

      thank you!

      Lorenzo

It was a long time ago I last looked at a Hazeltine. I remember looking at the screen to judge the timing and I also remember a Synex strip. I might be spelling the word incorrectly (or have the wrong word entirely) but it was a ‘wedge’ of frames along a short strip of print film, each frame exposed to a different timing light.
