This may be taboo for this site as I’m sure most of y’all are beyond this and it comes off as self promotion. My friend and I have been working on a super low budget indie feature for the last few years and started making some youtubes to share what we’ve learned, give away some tips, and hopefully gain some traction or some eyes. I’m gonna put the link to our two videos one about an old Dior lens filter we used and one about a Deakins inspired LUT we stumbled across and some film emulations we like. Not trying to upset anyone, we are definitely not professionals, and are thankful to anyone who watches and hopefully if you do there is something to take away. Have a good day everyone!

Well, i think it’s the proof that you are a master when someone puts your name on a LUT!

Jokes apart, I am more or less in the same situation (learning, working with little or not budget, etc) and so congratulations to getting the work done, it’s not easy to create an indie production! I liked the stills in your video, they really have some Deakins’ vibe  (just a little tip for future videos: a little more showing, a little less talking!) . My doubt about LUTs in general and in particular one inspired to Roger’s works is that LUTs can do amazing things (your still show that) but they are a shortcut. In other words, one can obtain a great image but without actually knowing how he did. So, a nice shortcut to the desired look, but little learning from it (unless you analyze the values in the LUT and manually modify it to see what it does). I think it’s way more complicated but a better way on the long term to try to get to that very same look manually working on lights, camera movements, lense choices, color correction, color grading , etc etc. It took longer but you learn a lot doing that. Just my opinion! Good luck for the movie and congratulation for the movie!

I don’t believe an image or a look is created with a LUT. But i come from film and believe in shooting an image the way you want it to appear on the screen.

My wife and I have made a few extremely low budget features and know the amount of work that goers into it just being two people that basically did it all so congrats on that. Seeing you struggle with the filter knowing that those mics have clips on them I had to laugh 🙂
