Sorry I didn’t mean in front of the lens but rather overhead to try to control the harshness: something like a 4×4 opal, frost, muslin etc.? Or were these two references rather a time of choosing to shoot at a specific time to get the angle and shape you wanted on the subject? Thanks!
Miller’s Crossing is almost exclusively shot on long lenses. Quite the departure for Barry and the Coen’s at the time.
