Thank you, Roger. That makes sense. The brightness of the window frame was particularly bothering me, and yes the hardness on the subjects doesnt feel natural. Moving the source farther and makin it bigger should help reduce these two issues as the fall off would be significantly less.

One thing I’m still curious about is  since the actual opening is such a small window, would making the source larger outside than it is now significantly affect the softness of the characters? Because the small window effectively remains the limiting source size.
