Short Film Question

Hi Roger and James,

As a film student, I have become quite obsessed with short films as it seems like the form to try and master before one day getting to make a feature film.

I found David Lynch’s ‘The Cowboy and The Frenchman’ fantastic, as well as Tarkovsky’s ‘The Killers’.

Do you two watch many shorts? If so, what are your favorites and why? I understand it’s subjective, but in your opinion what qualities does a good short film have? By that I mean, an emphasis on a moment, the creation of a mood or tone, simplicity, character etc. Of course take the question whichever way you want.
