Shooting on phone

Hello Mr. Deakins. You’ve often said what matters is not the equipment we use but the technique and creativity. I’m a filmmaker who only has his phone. What advice would you give to someone with no lighting equipment, little to no budget, and a phone for capturing moving/powerful images?

I think you need practice with all possible cameras/mediums/sensors/lenses to understand the differences and basics. Then, having understood the capabilities of the phone, you need to come up with a story and find at least one actor, one microphone and a couple of lights. And only then…
