      Hello Roger,

Are there any films throughout your career where you have chosen to shoot consistently at a wider aperture for the purpose of maintaining a more shallow depth of field throughout the film?

I can’t say there is one specifically, no. Its usually teh other way around. I am trying for a deeper stop and more depth of field.

          Thank you, Roger.

Does anyone on this forum know any examples of where this was done?

“Army of the Dead” (2021) by Zack Snyder, shot consistently at f0.95 with Canon Rangefinder lenses.

The movie is as shallow as the aperture used and a prime example of putting style over substance.

I suspect ‘Son of Saul’ was shot with wide apertures to limit the focus of the backgrounds.
