FPS vs ISO in sony F5 camera

I recently came across a situation where, if the FPS is set to “variable,” adjusting the ISO seems to have no effect on the exposure of the image (the simulation does not change).

However, when the FPS is set to “fix,” changing the ISO does affect the image exposure (the simulation is active).

Has anyone experienced this scenario? It would be really helpful if someone could explain this.

I hope i am not saying a complete nonsense but is it possible that on “FPS variabile” the  camera tries to keep the exposure constant, so when the ISO is changed the FPS are changed accordingly by the camera to compensate?
