Alec Soth is an American photographer based in Minneapolis, Minnesota and his work, most notably his photo books Sleeping by the Mississippi and Niagara really I think speak to the same way you Roger approach your own photography/cinematography. The exploration of space and place, emphasis on natural light, making the character or subjects interaction or presence within their environment believable and serviceable to the story as well as just wanting the work to come off as real and authentic as possible. Flipping through his book Niagara right after Byways made me realize further how both of you know instinctually that it’s not always the prettiest or most cinematic shot that drives home the point of the narrative you’re exploring. It’s choosing the right shot at the right time.
