      Dear master Roger

Generally, in movies, moonlight is depicted in a blue color. However, nowadays some upcoming cinematographers—without considering the context of the story—have been filming night scenes using a ‘peacock blue’ (cyan) moonlight that seems to distort the core theme. To me, that’s looks artificial.

you are a long-standing experience best cinematographer, what is your thoughts on this? How do you perceive the difference between standard blue moonlight and this peacock blue shade? What is your opinion?  One thing I know for sure: you would definitely not use peacock blue for moonlight

Yes, the convention is for moonlight to be blue in films and that seems natural to the way my eye reads moonlight. I, and many others, have been guilty of making the color too intense, but that is only my own judgement and I am only referencing naturalistic films. But on the right project? Maybe a peacock blue would be perfect.

Have you seen any right movie that used peocock blue moon light used. For me nightmare alley (2021) film makes sense when they used peocock blue moon light. In my opinion any project larger than life context would be suitable better for peacock blue moon light work. They think Using peacock blue moon light is stylish choice. But it’s ruined the context.

Nightmare Alley is a good example. Whether you like it or not the peacock blue was consistent with the overall style of the film. In the very early days of color, especially those using the Technicolor process, night scenes were often a very saturated blue.

I like very much nightmare alley film the way they used peocock blue and wide lenses. Is there any other films have you noticed like this?

I like very much nightmare alley film peacock blue moon light perfectly fit the  context. When I mentioned ‘they,’ I was referring to those who misuse the peacock-colored moonlight for stylish choice in India, not the crew of the movie Nightmare Alley. It was a sentence mistake made in haste. In fact, it has been four years since I watched that film. I viewed it as a movie that utilized peacock-blue moonlight perfectly. I mentioned the film specifically to confirm this with you and to hear your thoughts on it.”
