Hi All!
Does anyone know what resolution the film was scanned at into the DI for this? I know most films at that time would’ve been scanned at 2k, but I’m assuming maybe they went 4k for this one to preserve that higher level of detail 5 perf would offer?
Reason I’m asking is because they did the roadshow 70mm prints and if it has indeed gone through a DI that limited the resolution anyway before being printed back out onto film, then there are certainly pixels in existance on those 70mm prints that limit it to way less than what the original prints are capable of. Unless the roadshow skipped the DI alltogether and went the Nolan route, but then I do remember they had to blue screen stuff outside the windows as it was a set build, so I doubt that there are actualy doing optical keying for these roadshow prints.
Basically, if somewhere along the line a computer was involved, then are those prints the absolute limitless best version of the film or are they just digital files printed back onto film, possibly at 4k, maybe even 2k?
Don’t care about resolution talk, I think it’s a great film, but was just curious if anyone knew and what your thoughts were – I think it could speak more to the marketing of these things than anything else. Much like those 4k blu rays of films with negatives DI’d at 2k that clearly have effects or no new grades and pretend to be higher resolution.
