      Hello Team Deakins!

I had an incredible experience watching Nineteen Eighty-Four today. I love the feelings of entrapment and surveillance especially with wide shots, it’s amazing how you can craft such incredibly claustrophobic frames in such wide shots.

I was looking through the credits list and saw Dick Pope was a Camera Operator for the film? I would love to hear which shots of this is true and if so how was the experience working with him?

Dick did some second unit shots on 1984. He was one of Roger’s best friends since the time that they started out. Dick shot the rats in 1917 and Roger had no idea that his phobia (his room 101!) was rats. Despite this, he got some great footage!
