Dear James,

Congratulations with the amazing new website!
I like the clean modern look. very nice job!
I have two things i want to share with you:

  • Because of my bad English 😉  it happens often that i want to correct a view things and words after publishing a post. But in the new board i can't find any 'edit' options. Maybe it would be a nice feature update?
  • Second thing: On talks about lightning and compositing it would be great to insert a picture or still on a specific position in the post, rather then just attaching it at the bottom or place a clickable link.

Thanks for all your services and the great community you bring together this way!

Previous forum was better....

Sorry you feel that way, Dmitriy. Perhaps if you give me something more specific to go on, I can try to encorporate it into this forum. Can't really do much with your blanket statement.

I'm having the same issue regarding the edit function -- I can't find the edit button in order to fix my post after-the-fact. Otherwise the new forum looks lovely.

Don't fear change Dmitry, in the old forum you couldn't attach reference images like you can now. To be able to see the lighting examples right there in thread is wonderfull!

I like this new design however the thing I liked about the older website was its
simplicity.

The forum does look lovely! I have to get use to the way of seeing what are the most recent comments on topics I'm active in. But that will come! I love the fresh taste, and it fits way better in the total website layout!

What would be amazing is an native iPhone app support. Do you use an Wordpress forum plugin? And do you know if it's supported by iPhone read out apps?

Hi,

You should be able to edit your posts. I did set it up that way. I will check again today.

Yes, it's WordPress - which has been difficult for me to adjust to because I am used to doing all the programming in php and mysql in the background....but I'm getting there. It is a responsive theme so it should work on mobile devices.

It is responsible! And it works fine on my iPhone. But i know there are third party apps that can connect to forum plugins and scripts like phpbb that you used before. That way is even more user en reader friendly on such devices. i don't know if you own a iPhone, if you do: You can search for the forum plugin name in the App Store. I know when you search for phpbb forum there are several apps that support it. I'm curious!

The setting is in place to allow posters to edit their post. It's a little hard to find, perhaps. If you look at your name at the top of the post, on the right is a wrench icon. Put your mouse over this and you will see the option to edit the post.

Could you check this and let me know if it works for you?

Thanks!

Yeah! Its there. But only on new published posts. But from now on I can edit! Thanks a lot!

James!
It looks like the edit feature is not working in every board. I just posted a new message in your LUT topic. And I'm not able to edit this one. Do you maybe know whats going on there? Thanks!

Well, I now see that the post above is not editable to.
It look likes the function disappeared again. Just wanted to mention it to you.

Dear James,

i'd like to also kindly ask for an option to edit ones own posts. And in addition, is there a possibility to quote from certain posts like in the old forum? I'd love to have this feature if possible.

Thanks a lot!

James,  is there a way to add additional photos into a thread topic in the list rather than afresh one at the bottom, i hope that makes sense? At the moment it appears you can jump in and add a comment but perhaps not add a pic?

Almax, I'll have to check that.

Dear James,

editing now works perfectly for me, thanks. Another thing i have: in this post i linked a youtube video

https://rogerdeakins.com/lighting/a-matter-of-quality-or-economy-or-both/»

But in addition to the link the forum also embeds the youtube-video in my post. I don't wanted that since i just wanted to share the link which perfectly works and brings anyone who's inteterested directly to the right sequence of the video i refer to. Is there a possibility for me to prevent the embedding? It seems the forum does this automatically...

Thanks a lot.

Hello again, i just found out that the editing option only works for me when 'adding comments', unfortunatly not when posting a reply to any topic nor when posting a topic.

And one more suggestion: it would be nice to be able to also underline phrases, if needed. Thanks again.

James, by the way, congratulations on the new site! I have not been able to write sooner because the past weeks have been a bit hectic due to work. This forum is far much better! And it also looks better! So I hope Roger feels more at home here.

James,

I think the new website is great and has many features that enhance a members ability to learn from you and Roger. Thanks for the hard work and commitment to putting it together.

Thanks all for the feedback. We've been fairly crazy busy lately but I'm hoping in a week or so to put up a new "Looking at Lighting" page.
