Question to Roger (3 replies and 3 comments)
How did you grow from a documentary photographer to the current large scale of photography? Did you gain experience under your master? How did you deal with it as it grew in size?
Roger said once he is self taught!
Vanniyan,thank you for teaching me!
I had no 'master' and I learnt by using my eyes, watching all the films I could and doing the job.
Thank you Roger. I feel like you are always advising to believe in yourself. I try to work on that basis.
Most cinematographers don't leap from shooting no-budget projects to huge-budget projects so it is possible with experience to know how to scale-up. Maybe you had to light a courtroom with three large windows for daytime and next you have a location with ten large windows. Maybe you lit a city block at night on one movie and the next time you have to light three city blocks. Of course, occasionally there are bigger leaps that take more planning and research. But don't forget you've hired an experienced gaffer and key grip -- you're not alone in solving these problems.
David thank you always. I'm guided towards advertising from documentaries. I'm proud to learn here.
