Just for fun - April Giveaway (4 replies and 4 comments)
In honor of Roger's encouragement for us to find our own voice as it were, and not copy anyone, even the great masters we admire - a proposal for an alternate badge...
A tip of the hat to the Maestro who has helped so many of us.
What does FS stand for? If you would like to make up the badges, we can certainly add them to the giveaway.
I’llI start them off. Film School, For Sale, Full Screen, Fire Service, Free Sex!
Just a little inside joke - 'Roger Deakins Film School'.
Instead of thinking about what would Roger do, more about taking what we've learned and seeing what would we do?
I'd love to, but I'm sorry I have no skills or facility to make them!
Sorry James - I guess I thought perhaps the originator of the badge could make these as well, but now I'm thinking about it it's probably very unrealistic for several reasons. Just a fun idea not thought through very well.
Simon, It’s a fun Idea. I made these patches as a joke with my crew to put them on the camera. Unfortunately I made one large batch and that’s it so changing them gets pretty costly haha. The WWDD logo is really just meant to be a fun and funny reminder, in my crew that simplicity is often the best approach haha. Anyway thanks for the feedback.
Graham, do we know what RDFS stands for. Just curious
I would think of it more this way: WHAT WOULD ROGER DO? He would look at the scene, think about what has come before and after, analyze what the scene is trying to say, figure out how much actual time we have for the scene, check what the blocking is and what that dictates for lighting, check with the director as to what concerns he has with the scene, etc., etc. and finally come up with a plan.
And that is what you should do.
Sorry you don't like the patches - we think think they're pretty great. Thanks again, Graham!
I seem to have accidentally fallen into a miscommunication vortex of my own creation. My apologies to all involved.
James: reading your description of what WWDD makes total and absolute sense to me, and I love it!
I think perhaps when I said "Just a fun idea not thought through very well", you thought I was referring to Graham Robbins patch!! No, I was referring to my own ill considered idea!! Out of nothing more than enthusiasm and excitement I proposed the alternate badge, but as I said, I hadn't thought it through any further than that. My bad, and sorry for making a mess. I'll think twice next time!
Graham: I love your patch. I love your enthusiasm, I love your ingenuity, and I love your reminder that simplicity is often best. Please forgive my sticking my foot in it. No mal intent I assure you.
