Episode 3 - Location Scouting (2 replies and 2 comments)
In this episode, we talk about location scouting – it’s importance, what you look for in a scout, when you do the scouts and on from there!
Location scouting can be very valuable, not only to be sure you don’t wind up with an unshootable location but also it’s a way to learn what the director is envisioning for the scenes. The early scouts, because they are limited in participants, are particularly valuable as a way for the director, production designer and director of photographer to start collaborating on a coherent look.

I'm loving the podcast! Thank you for making it.
On this episode, Roger mentions he no longer uses a viewfinder and instead uses apps on his phone. Can you please recommend your favorite viewfinder app?
The big 2 are - https://www.cadrage.app/» or https://www.chemicalwedding.tv/app%20Pages/artemisPro.php»
Artemis has a quote from Roger with regards to using the app so I assume this is his preferred option.
Yes, Artemis is pretty standard.
Dear James; Roger. currently tearing thought the podcast series, thanks you so much for doing this, it does make a massive difference. (im sure its been said before) but the use of Still photography on Skyfall/Island sequence was an absolute nugget of information and blew my mind a little. I think its a detail thats particularly relevant to low budget films. cheers
