Episode 26 - BILL POPE - Cinematographer (3 replies)
Team Deakins has the pleasure of talking with talented cinematographer, Bill Pope. He’s shot so many wonderful films, including The Matrix series, The Jungle Book, Clueless, Baby Driver and many more. A fun discussion on the many aspects of filmmaking, and how certain films were made. We learn how some of the fantastic visuals of The Matrix came to be and some of the techniques used in making The Jungle Book. The conversation also looks into the relationship of the DP with the VFX team, the importance of preparation and what the personal experience of filmmaking can be. Bill is not only talented but very articulate so it’s an episode you don’t want to miss!

Thanks to the Deakins team for what is easily the best podcast so far. Not only was it informative, it was hugely entertaining thanks to Mr. Pope's humor, insight and candid views, especially on "The Matrix." It's interesting to note that he never did work with the Wachowskis after the sequels. Reminds me of Gordon Willis when he publicly mused that the third "Godfather" shouldn't have been made.
The "drug-soaked" music video that was recalled in the podcast:
Great episode. Was already in love with Pope and now that I know he did the latest Cosmos series, he's my all-timer. I am really interested in some influential books these guests loved or felt were pivotal for them and maybe a movie recommendation. Loved all the episodes so far. Thanks guys.
