We will be publishing a book of Roger's stills. The title is BYWAYS. You can learn more on the BYWAYS page under the Team Deakins menu. Or click here.

Once we get the books, we will be giving away two books - more on that soon!

We'll be giving more details on our Instagram feed - @team.deakins.

Oh my god this is so exciting! I've already pre-ordered and so so glad it actually ships to China which is where I'm at. Can't wait to tell everyone who might want one also. And the giveaways are going to be signed by Roger? I'm officially on cloud nine right now.

Hi James deakins it's really good to hear this news. I am thinking for long time about podcast episodes. You are invited different country cinema people's in podcast. Some people's language pronouncing little hard to understand. I request you and master roger would you please publish the podcast book for every one year podcast collections. I mean podcast to book. Really it would be helpful for all who can't understand clearly different region people's language's. I hope you both consider my request.

Now that is a good idea. Well done Vanniyan.

If someone would like to do the work of transcribing all the episodes and sending that to me, I will certainly look into it.

First of all thanks for your consideration james. i don't know transcribing person. I am in india. Probably you know some companys. There are some online transcribing company's. Our forum member mr.Mike know very well about transcribe company. He suggested me few company's. But it's cost. These company's doing transcribing. Here is the link

Yes, I can get it transcribed but it will not be cost effective. What is the target market? No more than half a dozen members perhaps. Now if the podcasts are printed as a book, now that is a different story. The value of a podcast is that the guest and broadcaster discuss the topic “Live” as it happens there and then. That’s the appeal of a podcast, transcribing it into a script could mean some of the deviations and
inuendo’s are miss out. Listening to a live broadcast is much more fun.

Do you think I am talking for only half of the dozen forum members. There are lot more who can't understand different british slang and different region slang. I am sure if the podcast transcribed to book shape it beat the BYWAYS book sales record. I just share my humble opinion. That's it. Choice is roger and james.

I agree with you, podcasts transcribed into a book will appeal to many people
perhaps a podcast ‘DVD’ for ‘future‘ interviews would be better. Podcasts do take up a lot of time especially in the preparation stage, I am surprised how Roger and James find the time to put these things together, they could be relaxing and enjoying themselves or better still out on their boat fishing etc. There is another ‘life’ besides the film industry. This is the time for them to have some fun!

Fantastic news! Really looking forward to this.

I wonder if you both would consider doing a podcast on the experience of putting the book together- selecting what images, sequencing the book, etc. there’s a lot of thoughtfulness that would undoubtedly go into the process.

I've ordered one already 🙂 I hope all is fine with my order, I received confirmation emails from 'Damiani' in Bologna. Is this right?

Mike

That’s interesting. I never received any confirmation.

Apparently, the Printer is in Bologna Italy. Cannot see how Roger can sign the books when the books are in Italy. Obviously, some copies will go to him in LA so he could sign them when he presents himself at a ‘book signing’ at a store. The printer can supply strips of paper with his signature on and include it with each book but I understand that they will only do it on a limited production run.

To get the book personally signed by him, you will need to attend one of his book signing events. That’s how I understand it.

There will be signed copies available. I'm working out the wheres and hows. Probably at book stores.

Mike

Most book shops demand 12 month sale or return agreement but without an experienced literary agent to promote the book, few shops will show interest. I am having the same distribution troubles with my printer in the Philippines. Getting books into shops is a major headache, a really good agent can make it happen but at cost!

I've pre-ordered from Damiani too cause I'm from Italy. A signed copy would be a dream but I know is really really difficult to make all of us happy.

I have checked out the byways book price. It shows 50 US dollar. It's around 3,738.32 INR. It's really worth to buy my favourite sir rogerdeakins signed book. But right now I can't buy any book. I knew i don't have any luck myself. I missed giveaway  NCFOM dvd copy already. I am just thinking what I have to do if I don't won giveaway lottery.!

You smell books too! I’m a ‘sniffer’, nothing like the smell of paper and glue and a few dead silver fish. Lovely!

Congratulations Roger and James, I can't wait to be able to afford it. It is so exciting to see the printing process (and I would too enjoy a podcast about it), and I'm very curious about the gems it will contain

As a professional still photographer can't wait to see Roger's private work, my career in stills came out of my love of films.

The photographs in the book have almost nothing to do with my work as a cinematographer and all are of a documentary nature. They are my personal 'sketches', if you like, a variety of images of things that have caught my eye.

That is why I can't wait to see your private take on the world. Thanks for sharing with all us.
