Hi Roger. I read that you enjoy still photography. Could you recommend how we might use still photography to improve our camera work/composition and general cinematography? Do you have any specific instructions that you could offer, challenges perhaps?

Just get out there and start taking photographs. That is all the advice I have. You must decide for yourself what subjects interest you, the lighting and the compositions that 'work' for you.

I will often just wander with my camera just looking for an image that strikes me as interesting. Which could be anything really.

Hey Roger. I also am super interested in photography. Question: On your wanderings, are there any particular settings you keep your camera at? Do you change lenses? Sutterspeed?

I usually use an M8. The 35mm is my main lens but I do carry a 28mm. I change shutter speeds and aperture depending on the content of the shot.

I have just bought a Leica Q, which has a fixed 28mm lens but automatic focus and iris options. I think this might be a good camera for the kind of 'off the cuff' street photography I like.

hello Roger, do you think that the fact you use this 2 wide lenses in your personal pictures, they influence your lenses selection when you're working in a film?

I have a Fuji X100T and love that the lens has a fixed focal.

I'm with you Peter, I have a long love affair with the Fuji x100 series cameras. I spent the last year photographing with it exclusively. That exercise has had a significant creative impact on me. I'd love to see your photos.

'If your photograph is not working get closer'. I forget who made that remark - Joseph Koudelka maybe - but that has stuck with me.
