Drawing from stills in your cinematography (1 reply and 1 comment)
Hi again Roger!
From your podcast episodes with Alex Webb and Harry Gruyaert, it seems you have some admiration for stills; street photography specifically.
Would you say this has influenced how you might see and chose to make images in your cinema work? Also, are there any other street shooters you admire besides the aforementioned ones?
I'm a pretty avid street photographer finding my feet in cinematography, so thought I might share a couple favourites - from Fred Herzog and Joshua Jackson.
There are many other still photographers I admire and I spend some of my down time exploring with a stills camera myself. How much these things influence my cinematography I don't know. I count the work of Alex Webb and Harry Gruyaert as the best of anyone working in color.
I suppose it's not an entirely conscious thing, though we all draw from other work we admire to some extent I imagine. Yes, they are indeed!
