Hello Roger,

I did not even realize that BR 2049 used miniatures until recently when I saw a behind the scenes video about it, which means they did a great job!

What sort of input did you have with the miniatures team?

Hi Roger.

Weta Workshop - Blade Runner 2049 Miniatures»

I saw the miniatures video also and wonder the same,
what was your input on creating the shots?
Be it lighting or movement.

Thanks

The miniatures formed a basis for many shots but not so many as implied in that video. Denis and I viewed dailies as they were being shot and we gave guidance to what we liked and what we didn't like as things developed. The basis of the shots of the Police Tower and the Wallace Corporation Building were kept but there was a great deal of CG work done on top of what was shot as miniatures. What the model photography did give was the feeling of real motion but often the scale, the textures and the atmosphere had to be adjusted in CG. The model unit provided us with multiple passes of the same set done using motion control. This enabled different versions of the same shot to be combined later.
