Hi Roger,

Last month I was elated when I stumbled upon 'Hobie's antique store' set for the Goldfinch being built in greenwich village. It made me wonder – at what point in the timeline of the set building process does the cinematographer become involved? What kind of collaboration is there between you and the set designer in terms of creating the atmosphere you have in mind to capture?

We scouted for all the locations together with the director. There were a number of possibilities for the 'Hobie's Antique Store' and it was a collaboration to come up with the best combination of location and set work. In the end we shot on two separate locations and on one built set, a set that was based on a location but one that would have been impractical to light.

Do you also collaborate with the director and set designer in terms of color palette during this period? or is all that determined from the outset? From my understanding the art director has some say in the creation of the a film's color narrative.

If you want to be a cinematographer then of course you should have major in cinematography. Although photography is practically a sibling of cinematography they are only similar in principles and in practice you'll have to work in a different environment condition and with very different equipment. The choice of the set color for a scene usually comes from a discussion between the director, designer and the cinematographer. I will also discuss the color fo the lighting I intend to use with the director, designer and also with the costume designer or even the make up artist if that feels relevant.

The designer works for quite a long time on a task before the cinematographer even starts to prep. While cinematographers buy in on the underlying outline of the film, they start their genuine work when designs, portrayals, do my assignment» and idea art have officially laid out the look of the film. As a rule, the generation creator can hardly wait for the landing the executive of photography to begin.

This collaboration can be very worth while I have been tracking things lately seeing some of those work and doing it all clearly, coursework writing» have been working well for me here which can make things well for me.
