Hello Roger,

Perhaps this topic has been discussed before, and if it has I appologize. But I just noticed that there is a slightly different aspect ratio of Jesse James. I have always watched the film in 2.35:1 and thought that was all there was, but I noticed there is an HBO version in a close to 1.85:1 ratio.

This confused me and I wanted to ask you which aspect ratio you intended. Especially since IMDB states the film is in 2.35:1. I also wanted to ask you why you think this might happen; a film appearing in different aspect ratios in different places?

I've attached some examples of the two ratios below.

Thanks,

Christian H

The film was and is 2:35, as far as I am concerned.

Thank you, Roger!

It’s so annoying that studios or whoever think that they can continue to alter films for every blu-ray release or for any reason they see fit.

I really appreciate you setting the record straight. I heard in the podcast that you had to search around for a copy of Shawshank Redemption that had the correct colors before you discussed the film with Greig Fraser. I wish blu-rays had a certification label for accurate image representation by the filmmakers and cinematographer. That would certainly help us navigate through all the different copies out there.

Warner Brothers are working on a new transfer of 'Shawshank Redemption' using the original camera negative and even re-mastering the opticals, so the overall quality should be better than it ever was. There is a great colorist working on it and I am looking forward to seeing the final result.

Roger, I am surprised that they have not invited you to take part, that’s really mean.
Or atleast, copy you in on their weekly progress. Perhaps a small retainer.

We did spend a day in the timing suite. Warners kindly waited until we had been vaccinated to do the session.

Thankyou, that was very kind of them to wait.
