Professional format for Color Correction (2 replies)
Hello Roger and Forum,
I'm wondering what format is delivered to the DI Suite for professional movies? We've made a few documentaries, and I've done the color correction right on the timeline in Adobe Premier. For a pro movie each clip may need some adjustment, so what format is used? Thanks in advance.
A D.I. facility would work from your camera originals and the EDL from your offline edit to create a conformed master, often stored as DPX files, usually log gamma, and color-corrected for whatever the main color space will be (P3 for theatrical, Rec.709 for broadcast). I believe some systems will work directly from raw files, if that was what was shot, without first having to convert them to log files, but most facilities would first convert to log DPX files in advance of the color-correction session. There is also the whole ACES workflow, which is a bit different.
