Hi am saran from India,i shot a film in Alexa xt.but my color grading is going to happen in Rec709 color space.my colorist says, it’s good to work in this color space, because final out is 2k or HD .is he saying rIght
It doesn't matter what space you work in if and ONLY if the display is calibrated to the working space.
After the work is done, in stead of applying the output space of rec709, you can choose any other one (P3 for cinema for example) and it will be okay. The only difference is that when you project your footage in a theatre, some shots might display slightly more "saturated colours".. for example, traffic lights, neon lights, sunlit grass and stuff like that. It will look a slight bit more "lifelike" but the actual colour balance will be exactly the same as when you were grading it. Provided your working space and display spec were identical.
