Using Bed sheets - podcast topic with Benoît Delhomme (1 reply and 1 comment)

Hi,  in your podcast with Benoît Delhomme he mentions using bed sheets on the floor and you reply that you used to buy them and dye them and that you still do.

While I can easily imagine the effect and think it to be brilliant I so want to know more. Did Sir Roger buy some Tangerine Rit or was it Violet?  Front load or top load washing machine?  Does thread count matter?  Fitted?

And the reactions on set.

I know there's a story here.

Its really not that interesting. I use muslin and I use any white or colored cloth. It is easy to tape on a wall or lay down on the ground. I sometimes dyed sheets a light blue to match sky bounce or a soft orange to match the sand, especially when I was shooting in Kenya or in Morocco.

Excellent information and thanks for the swift reply. I hadn't thought of sky or sand but now that you mention it it makes complete sense. I did recently bounce an Arri 650 into a burlap dropcloth and the effect felt like the old west and very nice. I'm a fan of simple but so often feel compelled to spend money on "professional" solutions.
Thanks again!
Jim
