Dear Mr Deakins,

I remembered you created this soft cool toplight by used Maxi-Brutes bounce off Griffolyns which you hung from the ceiling. And you siad you want the gray look for this scene. May I ask you, did you put some gray gel in front the Maxi-Brutes or just through the DI to achieve this effect ?

Thank you !

This film did not go through a DI post process. It was film throughout.

I don't think I was bouncing Maxis off Grifflolyn(I have spelt that wrong for years, thanks) reflectors. I would usually use a Maxi through a diffusion. I can't remember if this shot was made on a set or on location. I suspect we made it on location and I was using a small HMI with a half blue on it bounced off a 8' x 4' piece of polystyrene. I remember the dailies print was a little green, which is something that could happen with an HMI lamp at that time and I corrected it in the final timing. If it had been made on stage I would have simply used a half blue on a tungsten lamp.
