Hello ! A classmate and I are doing a year-end report for our last year of study. Our subject is "LED in cinematography". We wanted to ask you few questions and get your opinion on LEDs :

Do you use them and if you do, which light does it replace in your work?

According to you, did the LED reinvent the way to create the cinematography of a film ?Did it improve it or just makes it easier?

Thanks for reading us and for this forum !

Cordially.

I use LEDs but they don't really replace another type of lamp so much as provide an alternative. They certainly don't 'reinvent' cinematography. Innovation is powered by creative desire.

I very much agree with Mr. Deakins, they have not really changed the film industry.

I think they could be a big step forward in TV production, because they tend to warm up less quickly than classic lights. This is still a big problem in TV studios.

They are also very easy to understand and use for beginners. Because you can adjust them very easily and very precisely. Another advantage is that you need less energy.

TV studios before the advent of LEDs were like 'fan-city'.  The noise of the AC trying to overcome the heat from 20 or 30kW of halogen burning at any one time was a real problem and presenters all had to wear lapel-mics - now the good old Sennheiser 416 is slowly returning and presenters no longer have to wear body-packs.
