Matching lights (2 replies and 1 comment)
Hey Mr. Deakins
I love your work. It's always terrific! I would like to ask you about matching lights. Do you match all your lights in same color temperature in film set or do you mix them? Your movies you have all kind of color tones. Sometimes warm yellow, cool, daylight or even muted colors. Do you make all tones in post production or does color tone effects on your lightning work on set?
I shoot what I want a shot to look like so I always adjust the lighting to the color I am after using dimmers, gels or (with digital capture) just by adjusting the camera setting. I do very little color correction in the DI. I think this is important because I want the director and the studio to see what I am intending the final result to look like. I don't want to spring a surprise in post.
Thank you so much for your helpful answer Roger.
