Is there any chance we will have a Last Night In Soho Team Deakins episode? (4 replies and 8 comments)

I saw Last Night In Soho in an empty theater early this morning. I almost shed a tear after the credits finished rolling because I didn't get a chance to watch the film in Dolby Digital (😂). Do yourself a favor and get a Dolby Digital screening, if you can!

I loved the acting, the story, and the visual effects the creative team used to enhance the immersion. I would love to learn how any of the departments handled their challenges with visualizing the story. Is there a chance that Team Deakins has plans to interview anyone about this movie? It is one of my favorite releases this year.

What made you go and see this film in the first place.

Was it the 1960’s era that appealed to you.

No, it wasn't the era that appealed to me.

I live in the U.S.A. AMC theaters have a membership program that lets you see multiple movies a week for a fixed price. I add movies to my calendar even when I am not thrilled by the trailer. It was a happy surprise.

Thankyou for that.

Are you sure you meant Dolby Digital and not Dolby Atmos?  Dolby Digital is just another name for AC3 which is a type of lossy audio compression algorithm that usually is 5.1, or 7.1 for Dolby Digital Plus.  Dolby Atmos is one of the 3D audio formats (others include DTS-X and the IMO slightly superior MPEG-H).

You revealed the depth of my ignorance with this comment, so I did some research. My local AMC shows Dolby Cinema (dual 4K laser projectors) screenings with Dolby Atomos sound. That's what I meant!

We are on an indefinite hiatus. Besides, we never intend to 'interview' anyone. Hopefully, they felt like conversations.

How about a general ‘chat’ about your experiences working at various studios in Europe and the US. Which studios you felt comfortable working in and ofcourse the ones that gave you ‘grief’ perhaps due to their location or ofcourse, ones that did not come up to expectations. Perhaps a brief introduction into a “day in the life” of a DP and his crew. I am excited already, there’s another book here.

Yes, they do feel like conversations. I enjoy them!

It might not surprise you that I just listened to the latest podcast episode today. Explains a lot! Best of luck with your next film.
