Films like A Serious Man and Stroszek? (2 replies and 2 comments)
Hi everyone, I wanted to ask for suggestions of films similar to A Serious Man and Stroszek (1977). Specifically, films where the protagonist faces increasingly unfortunate set of circumstances, feeling a kick in the guts that make you sympathize with their suffering.
I feel like Andrey Zvyagintsev's films also are similar. One more I can think of, off the top of my head is Tom Ford's 'A Single Man'. I feel like these three films I mentioned have something significant in common. Would love to know from others. Thank you.
Drop everything and watch the 2014 Russian film "The Fool." It's a powerful story of a lowly plumber who discovers an apartment building is near collapse, threatening the lives of its 800 inhabitants. His struggle to convince the corrupt politicians is really the story of the poisoning of the Russian soul by the country's leaders. "The Fool" is intense and angry, clevery structured as a ticking time thriller.
You can watch the full movie on YouTube. Turn off the subtitles by clicking on the cc button on the bottom right as the English subs are burned into the image.
Oh thank you, looks great, I am going to be watching this today!
Just watched it, lovely little film imo. Thankyou for sharing.
The Fool is an excellent film! I enjoyed every running minute. It actually reminded me of the Italian film 'Happy as Lazaro', more so toward the end, especially that last scene. Great film. Thank you. If anyone has any other similar recommendations, I'd love to know.
