Just watched this film for the first time and quite enjoyed. Wondering what your thoughts are, Roger, especially seeing as it was shot by Conrad Hall. Are you an admirer of this film?
A good film. I loved that film. Many of the smaller more 'independent' films that Conrad shot were so good.
I love that one also.
I heard a story that Conrad Hall felt that scenes should be shot in a very modernist, abstract way but the director wanted scenes to be shot in a classic John Ford way -- so they compromised and the exterior shots were done in a classical Western style but the interior shots were done in a modernist style (long lenses, rack-focuses, etc.)
off topic. your lovewitch imagery is trending on dazed media feed. class
Yes , i remember watching it over 20 years ago, i remember thinking how unlike other movies i was used to it was, even the title intrigued me.
Conrad Hall had just shot 'Fat City', which was very different from his work on 'Tell The Willie Boy is Here' or 'Hell in the Pacific' or 'Smile' or ...... I could go on, of course. His work is a master class in visual 'story telling'.
