Talking about cinematography and visuals, what are the biggest differences between Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049? And what are the elements through which you made sure that the two movies were perceived as part of the same "universe"?

The story-line. I did nothing to deliberately connect one film with the other. I discussed that with Denis early on as I had no interest in working on a 'remake' or a 'visual sequel'. A lot changed between the two timelines.

Thanks for the kind reply! And what about the locations and sets? What was your approach while designing them and giving them their own identity? Did you start from some elements from the first Blade Runner to imagine how they might have evolved in the 30 years that passed or did you create all of it from scratch?

We started from scratch in every way. Denis wanted a far more brutalist view of the future.

That's so interesting, thank you!
