Black Panther nominated for Best Picture (2 replies and 1 comment)
You gotta be shitting me! I saw that movie on netflix last year and it was the crummiest, mediocre superhero movie ever made. John Wick is even a much better film. The only reason it was picked, it’s because of an all black cast. White guilt nominations. The Academy is a complete travesty, and what a load of poorly made films that came out of there this year. What a way to tarnish its reputable past films by becoming another MTV movie awards.
Cannot deny. The Black Panther along with A star is born are most over rated films of this year.
I agree with Black Panther and Crazy rich asians being overrated. I saw black panther in the theater and I couldn't understand why people loved it so much, I found myself waiting for it to be over. Cinematography was great, but I was not invested in the story and I didn't care about the charachters.
I just despise the idea that minorities feel as if they need to be recognized, even if their work is not good enough. I am a Hispanic American, and I have watched so many undeserving nominations over the past few years. White guilt should not be a deciding factor as to who gets a nomination or not, it’s not bigotry, it’s just a simple fact that there are more white filmmakers who make much better films. Ryan Coogler can barely utter a complete sentence that makes any sense, but since he is friends with Oprah Winfrey and old Barrack Obama likes his film, they felt the need to nominate his mediocre trash. I am not a part of the film world, but as someone who respects the work that has been done in the past, I find it pathetic that the Academy has stooped to such low standards, and playing favorites, as opposed to recognizing the work for what it is.
