Hello Roger,

So I was watching The Hudsucker Proxy and thinking about how outrageous the comedy is. But this made me have a thought.

Is there a different approach you use for slapstick comedy like The Hudsucker Proxy, or does that never matter in cinematography? Thanks!

There was a very definite fantasy element to 'Hudsucker' so I used more stylized lighting than I do on many films. Our lens choices were also more extreme than for 'Fargo', which was the Coen's next film but somewhat similar to their previous work 'Barton Fink'. 'Hudsucker' was a lot of fun to shoot and a substantial technical challenge. I think it one of the Coen's best films but sadly overlooked.

Lens choice more extreme than Fargo means did you use wide lenses lot in hudsucker proxy.

Yes, wider lenses and more dramatic camera movements.
