Im a budding director, and want to learn more about 'how to use the right lense' for a particular film  or scene.

Can you help with a book or an approach that can be helpful.

I think it is best to study films rather than a book. A director might like to work almost exclusively on a 21mm or wider whilst another might prefer a 135mm.

Thanks for your response Roger. I come from editing background, venturing into direction now. Sometimes I have an image that's in my head but don't know how should I communicate it to my DP and team.

There is no right or wrong lens, it's all subjective. Have a look at what films really work for you in terms of cinematography, and see if you can find out more about how the DP/Director lensed it. Then that gives you a good starting base to work from.

Thanks AdamEm. I should definitively follow this.
