Sand and fog (5 replies and 3 comments)
Dear master roger in house of sand and fog movie after Lester gone there was a time lapse of low angle of tall tree and sun going down semi dolly movement and Then reveal kathy sitting in front of table. There was sun light passing on her face. Is that all purely create the feeling of her serious thoughts or something else different idea. In this case there was two time lapse shots. One was exterior low angle of tall tree with sun going, second sun light passing her face. Why did you choose two time lapse shots rather than one shot to create the feeling of time passing. I assume the low angle of tall tree sun going down represent the nature of the god. Isn't it?
I don't think we were ever thinking about the nature of god! Kathy was reflecting on her life and her present situation so that shot seemed pertinent. The time lapse shots were a theme. I guess we wanted to heighten the contrast between Kathy's interior world and the larger world outside. The turning of the earth. That sort of thing.
Thanks roger. Time lapse shorts were a theme means. She must get her house before 18th. Is that also one of the reason for time lapse.
Probably not that explicitly.
Then what was the reason for used more time time lapse in this movie.
I have said what I felt was our reason for the time lapse but you really need to ask Vadim, the director, for more on this.
I have read in this forum somewhere else. Fast camera movement would give sort of energy. In "sand and fog " kathy walking in sea port area. There was one 360 circular fast camera movement around her face. She is almost lost everything. What kind of context you were trying to convey in that shot.
You are very extraordinary roger. I believe the whole scene was shot on handheld only.
We were trying to emphasize Kathy's confusion, anger and uncertainty.
