Improvisational Cinematography (1 reply)
Hello Mr. Deakins (and everyone,) hope you’re all good. I know you’re busy preparing for your new project, but I just wanted to ask a quick question:
What are your opinions and experiences in changing camera plans and shooting what feels right on the day? How much flexibility do you give yourself in the pre-pro stage to allow for this? Also which project ended up being the least similar to your plans?
I always try to leave as much room for improvisation as possible. Of course, there are always limitations to how much you can change on the day given that sets have to be designed and locations have to be chosen well in advance. But in terms of shots there are always variations on the day and often quite considerable variations.
