Have any of you ever shot anything on a smartphone/Filmic Pro/similar app? (2 replies and 2 comments)
Been doing this a lot lately out of necessity since traditional cameras and lenses are soooo expensive but I really enjoy it, and definitely think there's a future there at least for indie films. What does everyone else think?
I have a producer friend who hosts a podcast about shooting narrative stories on smart phones.. and is working on a made for mile series
He is also setting up a streaming channel for work shot on mobile..
Here is a trailer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VVV-lGlBYDk&t=1s»
Veena Sud is a writer director with serious series credits (The Killing, Seven Seconds) who did a deal with Jeff Katzenerg's now defunct Quibi for a mystery series -The Stranger - that was directed and shot specifically to be viewed on mobile... she covers how she and DP Paul Yee met the challenge of working in the small but wide horizontal format. The series is now streaming for free on The Roku Channel...
PS check out the other videos on his Made for Mobile channel... he does reviews of various apps and gear available for use with phones...
I have shot my first short film ever as a cinematographer using an Iphone + Filmic Pro + some lenses/filters by Moment and others. I think it worked out fine if you are not a super precise or technical person like me, I didn't find it it difficult to color correct even if the color balance was not the way I expected it to be in all the scenes (because you have to pay attention to the automatic white balance ecc.). But overall, I would work again using telephones.
This looks awesome! Where can I watch it 🙂
