Dear Roger

I am a 3rd year Film Development and Applied Technology degree student aiming to be a Cinematographer. I am just coming up to my ITP, (Investigative Technology Project) and my chosen topic surrounds focus breathing in cinema lenses. Are you able to answer a few questions about your experience with focus breathing and how it effects your decisions in the price equation for a production? I am personally doing a test between a Arri/Zeiss Signature Prime and lens and the Canon CN-E lens both 50 mm. What would be the best way to test focus breathing overall?

Kind Regards,

Samuel Jowett

I think you will find there is almost no breathing on a Signature Prime lens or an Arri Master Prime. I, personally, don't like the effect and it is one of the things I look out for in a lens.
