Difference between Good handheld vs bad handheld movies (4 replies and 4 comments)
Dear master you mentioned 'compartment no 6' movie pretty good hand-held And once talks about 'Son of saul' movie also. I am wondering what is the real difference good handheld vs bad hand held movies. At which point you decided it's good handheld movies. This one bad handheld movie. Did you talk about cinematographer handled the the way of rhythm?
Surely, that is plainly visible to any viewer.
How that is plainly visible to any viewers. Could you please explain me professionally.
My judgement is the same as yours. How does the camera move? Is it jerky and distracting? Is the camera in the right place?
Master roger we move to step forward then the camera moves while in shoulder. Do you mean meaningful camera moves or general moves? Yes it's bit of jerky when we handheld the camera. But some movie handheld shots too jerky. What is the reason for that. Do you believe every human body moves and walk not same as yours and me. I think this is the real purpose for handheld shots. What do you mean distracting? Handheld shot would give distracting? I want to tell you something. I found your handheld is different from Mathew libatique and his handheld moves different from Matyas erdely. So what is the secret of the difference?
There is a technique to handheld if you want it to be smooth. We all have different bodies but you can learn to walk with a soft footing. It's what we call a Groucho Marx, knees bent and shoulders as level as possible.
But that is not to say a steady hand held is what is wanted. Some will shoot hand held with a zoom lens and intentionally 'mix it up' in the belief that the result is somehow 'more realistic'. As I said, we judge that as individuals with varying points of view.
How did they shoot hand held with zoom lens without too jerky!
Where did you watch 'compartment no 6 movie. There is no dvd version. I could not find any dvd copy sale websites.
The movie was shown during Oct/Nov in a number of selected cinemas around the UK but you had to apply to the BFI for tickets. It was not on general release. I understand that it may be ‘streamed’ in February or early March 2022 and DVDs may be available after that. I imagine it will be available in India at the same time.
