250d

Postby bboulay » Mon Nov 23, 2009 3:00 pm

Hello,
I just got back from the local lab here in MN (delden film lab) where I picked up about 7200ft in 35mm short ends (much of it is yours from A Serious Man, Roger. The rest from a film called "Anna's Playground") for my senior film here at Minneapolis College of Art and Design. A lot of it is Kodak vision 2 250d and some fuji 250d. Can anybody give me some feedback on these stocks. I will be shooting a lot of overcast exteriors which I am not worried about, but some of it is also going to be a studio set lit for daytime. I have some smaller hmi's I can get my hands on but the rest will be tungsten lights gelled with CTB, how do these stocks handle mixed light? Does anyone have samples online?

Any feedback would be great,
Brandon Boulay

Any 250d was not from 'A Serious Man'. You might have been spun a line on that.

Oops, The footage was all in the same fridge and I didn't have time to inspect all the emulsion types (some of the labels were quite messy). After further looking I saw that all the cans from A serious Man are all tungsten. I see now that you are not a fan of daylight stocks from reading some other posts, would you mind elaborating on why. Like I said I haven't had much experience with daylight stocks, and this is my first project with 35mm.

My main concern is how the stock will handle mixed lighting scenarios.

regardless, I am very excited!

As I have said elsewhere, I like the tungsten stocks for the way they handle mixed light and I find them a little softer and less colourful. I also like the option of removing the correction filter when the daylight dims and having a negative that is biased blue. I also don't like carrying very many stocks. It's confusing!
