Alura on my Bolex

Postby robin_leveille » Mon Dec 17, 2012 11:15 am

I thought some of you might like this as we all started with a bolex somewhere in our career.

I remember Roger saying "Cinematography is more than a camera, whether that camera is a Red an Alexa or a Bolex. There is a little more to it that resolution, colour depth, latitude, grain structure, lens aberration etc. etc. etc." It got me thinking. So I went and tried to mount our cinema lenses on my little bolex body. well.. success!

I ordered a PL mount and I was testing to see if this could work. Turns out the BP-9 baseplate and lens support are perfectly sized for the Bolex EBM. No shims or anything required. Direct bolt on! Might just have to give this a test now. shall I say 50D VISION 3? I think so! :D

Very nice indeed! I would love to see the resulting motion picture image you might shoot. It makes me wonder if there might be a way yet of shooting on film without having to sell my car. Hmm. I might need to create a new thread: "Shooting film without having to sell your car to pay for it". How difficult is it to find a camera such as that, and what generally is the cost for one in good working order?

i love it. What I love about Bolex's is that its not so steady. I love the look and energy of a camera that isn't perfectly steady. Something I miss when using a modern camera. Maybe I am weird???

I don't know where I've read it but apparently a few 'well known' filmmakers used to develop their footage in their bathtubs.. don't know if it is credible though :p
