2k vs 4k scan for Super 16

Postby arnabgayan » Fri May 25, 2012 10:21 am

Hi Roger
Im a cinematography student from India.
I'm currently working on a project which we are planning to shoot on super 16 and blow it up to 35mm print. My question is when going for DI, is it better to do a 4k scan? I remember reading somewhere that scanning 16mm at 2k is as good as scanning 35mm at 4k. What do you suggest? Because, if a 2k scan is as good as 4k, in case of 16 mm,then of course going for 2k will save up quite a lot of money.

Thank you so much

I'm not Roger but I'd scan it 2k specially as student. if its properly exposed you can print it without any problem after good grading.

Yes, scanning a 12mm-wide piece of film at 2K is the same resolution as scanning at 24mm-wide piece of film at 4K.
