Roger,

I've enjoyed seeing your photographs on your site. It's fun to learn how you view the world when you're not working on a film. That made me curious: what are some of your favorite photographs (by other photographers), and why do you like them? I mean your favorite specific images, not just series or styles.

I'll share some of my favorites.

http://www.jmcfaber.at/inventory/classic/frechon.htm - I love this image because it's mysterious. The building is strange, and the side light and framing of the image makes me wonder what the rest of that place looks like.

http://www.ljplus.ru/img4/f/o/for_a_k/20jhjhjh.jpg (I haven't found the photographer yet.) - The lines! The far line of the pyramid looks like a tilted horizon line, and again, the image leaves a lot to the imagination. Also, the printing process (it looks a bit like albumen, to me) has that soft, classical glow.

http://www.blckdmnds.com/a-historia-de-um-olhar-henri-cartier-bresson/henricartierbresson-boat/ - What a decisive moment. I think of this as a photograph made for other photographers. There are so many visual associations.

http://artblart.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/gm_06219701-web.jpg - I like this because the mountains and clouds seem grand, yet the pine cones seem so silly. It's as though Adams were poking fun at his own work.
