Hey Mr. Deakins,

I'm going into my senior year at film school and I am about to shoot my advance film. We are shooting on super 16 and I was wondering if you had any input on how to get a great transfer that may not cost my crew a ton of money. Do you have any advice on this, or possibly advice to consider during shooting, to help us get a great transfer?

The best image quality you can obtain shooting Super 16, as with any other film format, involves shooting with the finest grain stock possible (usually the slowest speed stock), the best lenses, the steadiest camera and exposing the negative correctly. In my experience a negative that is slightly above normal density will give the best results in printing. None of these requirements should add to your shooting costs unless, that is, you need extra lighting to accommodate a slower speed stock.
