Mixing kodak and fuji film stock

Postby Vickster » Thu Oct 29, 2009 10:56 am

quick question,

I fell in love with 2 film stocks for our Senior Thesis film. The oustide EXT. on a bike will be shot on Fuji Eterna Vivd 160T (going for high staturate, high contrast, vivid look).
Interiors in a deli will be shot on Kodak Expression Vision II 500T (going for a low contrast, stale, vintage look to represent tradition and past time). I am getting a little nervous about mixing the two film stocks. Originally, I planned on using Eterna 400T fuji for interiors, but the director rather wanted to use Kodak for interiors. We are possibly getting a DI 2k scan so i don't know if it is even worth it going through this. Though I love to create the look with film stock as opposed to toning it later on. I am just nervous that the contrast between the two stocks creates too much of a gap. Any thoughts, suggestions, or experience?

thank you...

Vicky

I would not necessarily mix the different stocks in the same scene but if one is used on exteriors and the other on interiors I can't see a problem with that, even without a digital finish.
